[iPad....iPass]

So unless you have been hibernating for the last ... 5 years ... you undoubtedly have heard about the elusive 'Apple Tablet'. And unless you woke up yesterday and managed to not turn on a TV or a computer, you will have heard that it was finally revealed by the man, the myth..the legend; Steve Jobs yesterday. I love all things shiny, and had my "under $1000" ready to give to Apple. That is, until it was actually unveiled.

The rumors, the speculation, the hysteria, a roller-coaster ride for any true geek. And although we knew there was no way yesterday's announcement could have come close to the perfect device people had envisioned in their minds, secretly, everybody had the feeling that "This was Apple we're talking about. If anybody can do it, its them." And do they did not. So how could this be? Well instead of introducing you to what it does, lets see what it doesn't do.

1. Still no flash support. A device to be heralded as having the "best web browsing experience on any device" does not support flash. A little akward seeing the familiar blue icon during Steve's demo. :/

2. Still no multi-tasking. Hmm. Steve Jobs says that the device we all THOUGHT was supposed to sit between our phone and the laptop was the netbook; but we were wrong because this iPad is that device. Remember when Microsoft put that 3 app limit in their lowest SKU of Windows 7 for netbooks in the beta? Everybody went up in arms. After 3 years, still 1 app at a time. Nice.

3. No file management system. Can't transfer to/from the iPad at will? No thanks.

4. No GPS.5. $5-$6 additional charge on books compared to Amazon.

6. 4:3 aspect ratio screen?!?! That'll look fantastic for all the widescreen movies in iTunes!

7. $120+ for a 3G version? So I have to pony up the extra $120 to have the ability to pay $30/month so that I can pay an extra $6 for a book. Sweet, sign me up!

Having said all of this....ask me in 2 months if I actually bought one. I'm a sucker for shiny gadgets. :(
